April is Autism Awareness Month and we want to make sure we acknowledge, celebrate and educate all of our students about the wonderful minds of individuals on the spectrum. So in the spirit of the month all of our schools will be participating in a spirit week! Next week, each day will have a theme for students who choose to participate, these range from wear a fun hat to wearing clothes with something you love on it. Take a look at what each day will entail and explain to your student how their outfit each day fits into this spirit week and Autism Awareness Month!

We are looking for parents/guardians to be mentors for 7th grade students at MHS through the BB2C Parent Mentor Volunteer Program. These mentors work with students one on one or in a group with our students. A parent/volunteer would meet with their student one time a week here at the school, talk with the student, teach them about career options, and be that support for these students. We would love to have many of you come and be part of us! The BB2C program will offer training that will help anyone who volunteers to be successful! Marietta City School District will be in session after a 2-hour delay this morning but there will be several bus routes that will still be impacted by flooding. Anything North of Washington Street on the West Side (Gilman, Oak Grove, etc.) will be unable to be reached. We will have a bus picking up from The Boys and Girls Club, so students dropped off there may be bussed to school. The pickup time will be 8:30 a.m. for High School students and 10:30 a.m. for Elementary School students. Any student who can't be picked up by bus can call in for an excused absence. Thank you

spring clean up
Good Evening! I hope that our kids were able to rest and re-energize over Spring Break as there are many events that are embedded in the last 2 months of school! As a reminder- MCS will be in school tomorrow, April 8th. As you are aware- a solar eclipse will be passing through our area tomorrow afternoon. The time of the event will be near the end of the school day and beyond. Eye Care Associates has donated special glasses for all of our students and staff for the event. Please see the link below to see information regarding these glasses: https://www.mariettacityschools.k12.oh.us/article/1534270 For MHS- 1. Glasses will be distributed during 8th period 2. If your student is planning on leaving prior to 8th period, please have them stop by the office to receive a pair! 3. These glasses are not intended to be worn during driving or other activities- only should be worn when looking directly at the sun. Thank You Marietta High School Administration

Tigers, In addition to the Safety and Information document we’ve shared with you earlier in the week, we wanted to clarify a few things regarding what will be happening on Monday, April 8, 2024 due to the solar eclipse. While our district will be having a normal day of instruction, we understand that there will be families that want to enjoy this historic event with their children. Any student who is missing school on Monday to view the eclipse with their family will be considered an excused absence. This will still require the parent to call in and report the absence with the school that their child attends. For students who will be attending school that day, each building within the district will have their own plan for how the eclipse will fit in their daily instruction and how it will affect dismissal. Each building will share specifics directly to staff and parents this weekend. Questions or concerns about these plans should be directed to the building administration, not your students' teachers. Thank you, Brad Silvus, Superintendent

Tigers, I wanted to share information regarding Marietta City School District’s plan for the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. After much discussion between myself, our Board of Education members and neighboring districts within the county, we have decided that all 4 of our buildings in the district will be having a normal day of instruction on April 8th. Our board has established a clear expectation that minimizing our time out of the classroom is what is best for our students. This decision we feel will allow our students to have a minimally interrupted day of learning, and still witness this event alongside their peers and educators. Thanks to a generous donation from Eye Care Associates in Marietta, all of our students will have protective eyewear in order to view the historic eclipse. Since student safety is our number one priority, we will be distributing materials to our staff and students with instructions on how to make use of these glasses to safely enjoy the eclipse. We will also disseminate other safety and informational resources we’ve found from outside our organization to educators, students and families in the district. We are excited to share in this historic event with our staff and students. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out by emailing me at bsilvus@mariettacsdoh.org Thank you and Go Tigers! Brad Silvus, Superintendent for Marietta City School District
