April is Autism Awareness Month and we want to make sure we acknowledge, celebrate and educate all of our students about the wonderful minds of individuals on the spectrum. So in the spirit of the month all of our schools will be participating in a spirit week! Next week, each day will have a theme for students who choose to participate, these range from wear a fun hat to wearing clothes with something you love on it. Take a look at what each day will entail and explain to your student how their outfit each day fits into this spirit week and Autism Awareness Month!

Marietta City School District will be in session after a 2-hour delay this morning but there will be several bus routes that will still be impacted by flooding. Anything North of Washington Street on the West Side (Gilman, Oak Grove, etc.) will be unable to be reached. We will have a bus picking up from The Boys and Girls Club, so students dropped off there may be bussed to school. The pickup time will be 8:30 a.m. for High School students and 10:30 a.m. for Elementary School students. Any student who can't be picked up by bus can call in for an excused absence. Thank you

Tigers, In addition to the Safety and Information document we’ve shared with you earlier in the week, we wanted to clarify a few things regarding what will be happening on Monday, April 8, 2024 due to the solar eclipse. While our district will be having a normal day of instruction, we understand that there will be families that want to enjoy this historic event with their children. Any student who is missing school on Monday to view the eclipse with their family will be considered an excused absence. This will still require the parent to call in and report the absence with the school that their child attends. For students who will be attending school that day, each building within the district will have their own plan for how the eclipse will fit in their daily instruction and how it will affect dismissal. Each building will share specifics directly to staff and parents this weekend. Questions or concerns about these plans should be directed to the building administration, not your students' teachers. Thank you, Brad Silvus, Superintendent

Tigers, I wanted to share information regarding Marietta City School District’s plan for the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th. After much discussion between myself, our Board of Education members and neighboring districts within the county, we have decided that all 4 of our buildings in the district will be having a normal day of instruction on April 8th. Our board has established a clear expectation that minimizing our time out of the classroom is what is best for our students. This decision we feel will allow our students to have a minimally interrupted day of learning, and still witness this event alongside their peers and educators. Thanks to a generous donation from Eye Care Associates in Marietta, all of our students will have protective eyewear in order to view the historic eclipse. Since student safety is our number one priority, we will be distributing materials to our staff and students with instructions on how to make use of these glasses to safely enjoy the eclipse. We will also disseminate other safety and informational resources we’ve found from outside our organization to educators, students and families in the district. We are excited to share in this historic event with our staff and students. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out by emailing me at bsilvus@mariettacsdoh.org Thank you and Go Tigers! Brad Silvus, Superintendent for Marietta City School District

We greatly appreciate Sweet Frog giving bookmarks to all of our students!!! Each student received a bookmark where they could write the books that they have read. After filling up the chart, they can take the bookmark in to get a free cup at Sweet Frog. The bookmark states that it is for pre-K through fifth grade, but they said that we could give it to our sixth graders. Also, students can count the books that they read in March and April. The bookmark expires on 5/15/24 so students will need to go to Sweet Frog with their book written before that. Thank you and we hope that you enjoy!!

Hello MES families, we are currently in preparation for State testing which will be taking place at the end of this month and then again at the end of April. We wanted to give you a schedule of these testing dates, along with the details below. It is very important that your child is at school on time for state testing days. We will start testing first thing in the morning on these days right after breakfast. Your child needs to be at school by 8:50 a.m. If your child is at school after testing has begun then they will have to test on a make-up day. All grade levels will be testing on these days so all of our students in the building will be testing. It is also very important that your child is at school on these days. We will have make-up testing days scheduled if needed, but it is best if your child is at school on these days. Every student will have their Chromebook here at school and be using it for state testing. We will have it charged and ready for them. They will also need headphones. Please check with your child to make sure that their headphones are working at school. We will have headphones available for students if needed. We will provide breakfast on these days like we do every morning. Please encourage your child to get a good night's rest to help them be prepared for testing. We will provide the students with pencils, paper and mints during the test. We greatly appreciate your help with this! We know that our students will do their BEST on the TEST! We are proud of how hard all of our students and staff have worked this year!
