Strategic Planning Process

Marietta City Schools is excited to announce the launch of a strategic planning process for the district.

As this endeavor begins, staff and public participation will be critical to identifying clear strengths, opportunities for improvement and goals for the public district.

Beginning this month, the district will host both an online survey and in-person input sessions to engage our community in envisioning the next three years for Marietta City Schools.

“Engaging with our community to understand their values and expectations for our district is important to the Board of Education,” shares Board President Sam Tuten. “Meeting those expectations will require all of us to challenge ourselves constantly. We must diligently ensure we are working together and growing together to become the school district we want to be.”

The first sessions for public input will be held on January 26 at Marietta High School and on February 9 at Marietta Elementary. These one-hour discussions will be structured to engage conversations between diverse groups of our community with varied experiences, educational backgrounds and ages.

“This focused approach will assist us in planning professional development and in implementing new curricula and programming for our students,” describes Superintendent Brad Silvus.

Following the input sessions, data collected both in-person and online will be consolidated and reviewed to identify goal teams.

Those goal teams will be composed of a balance of staff, parents, students, community leaders and other public members to meet in March and identify action steps necessary to achieve each goal.

“We know the success of our district contributes to the success of our entire Marietta community, and so I invite everyone to be a part of this process,” Tuten adds.

The public is invited to participate in the following facilitated sessions by the Ohio School Boards Association:

Marietta High School Cafeteria
Marietta Elementary School Cafeteria
Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.Feb. 9 at 5 p.m.
Jan. 26 at 8 p.m.Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.

If you are interested in serving on a goal team but cannot attend one of the input sessions, please complete the survey to be released next week and select “Yes” to identify your interest in the March commitment.

“Within the last year, our district was called upon to provide critical feedback on the start of a new direction for Marietta City Schools,” says Tuten. “Feedback during the engagement sessions was especially vital for the Board of Education to establish priorities for selecting our new leadership. The board is beyond thrilled to continue empowering each stakeholder in the next steps toward student success because implementing an effective strategic plan starts with you.”
