Staff Opening Day

Silvus welcomed staff back to school Monday morning with a kickoff to the year before professional development and team planning sessions across all four academic buildings began.

He challenged each adult in the Marietta High School Auditorium to reflect on the educators who made the most impact in their lives by building a trusting relationship with them.

"I challenge you to re-engage our students and let them know that you're here for them," he said. "I have a short seven-minute video that speaks to the power of the teacher's relationship with students."

For Silvus, this reflection pointed to a patient teacher who shared guidance and challenged him to love learning.

"And so I challenge you, who will you support this year?" he echoed. "Who will you challenge? Who will you have that impact on? You have a great opportunity in front of you to seize that moment."

Staff will continue initial training for the school year Tuesday.

Classes begin Wednesday for students.
