Summer Updates

Hello Marietta.

We made it! We have closed the books on an unbelievable year. The twists and turns of the final two months have been exhausting. Putting this behind me feels really good at the moment, but now we need to look toward the fall. Based on how everything has played out thus far, our situation will likely change over the course of the summer. I hope that it changes for the best. With the reopening of some of our athletic activities, it gives me a slight glimmer of hope that we just might work our way back to something close to normal.

One to One: We have exciting news to announce about improved technology access in Marietta City Schools. In our last Board of Education meeting, MCS made a big commitment to the success of our students with a new program. Because of the potential ongoing impact of COVID - 19 on a typical school day, we have decided to become what's called a One to One school district. What that means is that every student enrolled in MCS will be issued a device to access curriculum whether they are inside or outside of the classroom. Students in grades 3-12 will be issued Chromebooks, and KG-2 students will receive iPads. I am quite proud of our staff for their willingness to meet the challenges of this new approach. At the moment, more than 150 teachers have signed up for the summer training sessions. When the fall comes, we will be ready to quickly shift to remote learning if we need to do so. With the help of the One to One approach, we will be able to switch either on a large or small scale, but we will be ready.

Meals: We will continue to serve meals to families through June 30. The biggest difference is that our sites have changed. Beginning June 1 through June 30, meals may be picked up Monday - Friday 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. We have changed the pick up location to the following three sites:

Phillips Elementary
Marietta High School - Davis Avenue side circle
Harmar Community Garden - Gillman Avenue parking lot

Updates: There have been several recent changes to athletics and our ability to work with our athletes. Contact our Athletic Director, Cody Venderlic [email protected]mariettacsdoh.org 740-374-6540 if you have any questions regarding athletics. Staying connected to MCS will keep you informed. I will send updates about the start of the 2020-2021 academic year as they become available. Please follow our website and social media as well.

Fees: This is a reminder to everyone to pay your child's school fees before we head into the summer. Unpaid school fees add up quickly so it is always easier to pay them each year. If you are unsure how much you owe contact the building secretary or central office ASAP.

Census: Why am I repeatedly asking you to complete your 2020 Census information? Responding to the census is not only your civic duty, it also affects the amount of funding our community receives, how our community plans for the future, and our representation in government. Specifically, data from the 2020 Census are used to:
Ensure public services and funding for schools, hospitals, and fire departments.
Plan new homes and businesses and improve neighborhoods.
Determine how many seats your state is allocated in the House of Representatives.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe summer!

Go Tigers!
