Dear Parents,
Ohio State law requires that every child entering Kindergarten or First grade (for the first time) be screened. It is the policy of the Marietta City Schools Board of Education that each child who will be (5) years of age on or before August 1st shall be eligible to enroll in kindergarten.
Registration is not a pass or fail examination. Rather, it is a method for you as parents to receive information about our kindergarten programs and for us to receive information about your child. The kindergarten teacher will use the information to assist in meeting the individual needs of your child.
Your child will be asked to respond to questions related to his/her school readiness. District personnel will administer the Brigance-Revised Screening instrument, which measures your child's abilities in math and reading concepts, speech and language, fine and gross motor skills and general knowledge. A team of school personnel will review the results of the Brigance-Revised Screening Instrument and determine if your child demonstrates school readiness.  You will receive a letter within two weeks after registration indicating your child's screening results.
In addition to this readiness screening, your child will receive a distance vision screening. A hearing screening will occur later in the fall. Any special concerns regarding your child can be communicated to the school nurse at registration.
You will receive a registration packet containing all the required forms that must be completed before you come to your appointment.
PLEASE bring with you to Kindergarten Registration:
  • official birth certificate w/stamped seal
  • your child's immunization/shot records
  • social security card
  • all completed registration packet forms
  • custody paperwork
Please bring all needed materials to your appointment. We look forward to seeing you and your child at kindergarten screening.
